Welcoming Paul Scott, Erskine Murray’s vastly experienced Account Executive

With a proven ability to truly understand and react to clients’ needs and decades of industry experience, we are delighted to announce that Paul Scott has joined our Midlands Commercial team as Account Executive. Where did you gain your insurance industry experience?

I’ve been in the industry for over 30 years, starting at Sun Alliance which then merged with the Royal and accumulatively, I was with these companies for around 19 years, predominantly in broker-facing roles. Since then, I have worked within a variety of insurance businesses and my roles have been diverse, including Development Manager, Head of B2B and Commercial Manager.

More recently, I held the position of Branch Director at Jelf and my experience helps me to not only meet clients’ needs, but also to anticipate any future requirements or opportunities for innovative solutions. I have also developed a rich understanding of the market; working in tandem, these skills help me to collaborate with clients to ensure that their best interests are always being protected.

What does your role at Erskine Murray entail?

I was brought in to take over the role of Adrian Vincent, Senior Account Director, who looks after a number of varied clients within Erskine Murray. Adrian will be retiring in April, so we have been working closely together since January to ensure the handover is seamless, both internally and for our clients. Due to the diversity and size of Adrian’s client base, his role needed to be taken on by a highly skilled individual with a broad background.

With over three decades of experience across a wide array of businesses, I will be focused on maintaining long-term relationships with our clients, ensuring that their needs are being met in a personable, efficient and cost-effective way.

What first attracted you to Erskine Murray as a company?

I saw this as a real opportunity to become a part of an independent brokerage that is achieving growth without private equity funding. Their vision for the future is exciting and supported by a professionally qualified team. I knew this was a business that I could set foundations and roots within and this stability is something that not only appeals to me, but to their clients too.

How would you describe your approach to client services?

I am very client-centric in my approach. I like to gain an in-depth understanding of each client’s business, including any challenges they may face - now and in the future - and how their business operates. I see my role as being more of a consultative one, becoming a valued extension of their senior team. With my wide breadth and depth of knowledge, markets and companies, I am also able to offer solutions that help to successfully navigate new or emerging issues, which leads to me becoming embedded within companies as a trusted advisor.

What are the key skills that you bring to your role?

As a qualified Chartered Insurance Broker, I have a strong technical understanding of insurance and I have worked at a senior level for many years, so I understand how businesses operate and the challenges and opportunities that they face. I have handled a broad range of clients during my career, so I have quite a unique understanding of what’s going on across multiple business sectors and this helps me to tailor solutions to best suit each client’s specific requirements.

How would you describe yourself as an individual?

I would say I’m very approachable - for me to do my job properly, people need to feel comfortable with connecting and talking openly with me. I’m a very honest person and integrity is very important to me. I like to know all of the details, which means that I need to be able to build a mutual trust between myself and clients as this leads to informed decision-making on both sides.

I also like to have fun! I think being personable and getting to know clients outside of the working environment can help to achieve stronger outcomes for businesses; activities like playing golf, watching sport or going out socially can really help to build trusting relationships and in-depth insights, which is key to my approach.

What can clients expect to see from Erskine Murray in the future?

We will continue to provide quality advice that’s supported by the best products available on the market. We’re a solid, professional broking business and everything we do as a company is centred around our clients’ needs, so there will be sustainable growth that will continue to place our clients’ best interests at the forefront of all that we do.
