Erskine Murray complete their third acquisition deal in 18 months

Erskine Murray are delighted to announce the completion of the acquisition of Houghton Insurance Bureau Ltd, a Bedfordshire-based independent insurance broker.

This is Erskine Murray’s third acquisition in the last eighteen months, having recently acquired Offley Insurance Ltd, a Cheshire-based insurance broker and Asciak Holdaway Merritt Ltd, an Essex-based brokerage.

Tom Bartleet, CEO at Erskine Murray, said: “With our values being so strongly aligned and mutual ambitions to be part of a company that will continue to develop into the future, the acquisition of Houghton Insurance is a positive move that will further future-proof Erskine Murray’s commitment to our clients. As a growing broker, both organically and via targeted acquisitions, we are continuing to develop our service offering to ensure we remain in the best position to serve our clients.”

This acquisition will serve to further strengthen Erskine Murray’s regional presence and reach, and is reflective of Erskine Murray’s strategic vision as it continues to deliver on its commitment to high quality client experience and services.

Company Director, Duncan Smith, said: “After providing independent commercial and personal insurance broking services to our clients for over 50 years, we have been able to
join another like-minded insurance business who share our aims and ethos, and in
turn will enable us to continue to flourish, grow and expand. In addition, we have the
same common goal of offering our clients solid sound advice, help and assistance in
providing competitive risk management solutions.”

From this deal, Houghton Insurance’s clients will benefit from the vast operational functions of a larger organisation, while still retaining a personable and localised service. For Houghton Insurance’s employees, this deal presents enhanced career and development opportunities, particularly given that Erskine Murray have recently attained Chartered Insurance Brokers status from the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Managing Director, Alan Wheeler, said: “It is encouraging that we are continuing to acquire local businesses who share Erskine Murray’s ethos for excellent client services on both a local and a national scale. There is strong and significant alignment between our vision and culture, which makes Houghton Insurance the perfect fit for us. We are focused on enhancing the range of products and services for Houghton Insurance’s current loyal client base so that they may continue to benefit from progressions in the industry.”

Alan added: “We are delighted that Duncan will be continuing on in the business. With over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry and a strong and established client base, we look forward to working with Duncan and the team in 2019.”
