Ecclesiastical Group awards charity £2,500 on behalf of Erskine Murray

Special certificate highlighting Ecclesiastical’s donation to VASL Young Carers, on behalf of Erskine Murray

Ecclesiastical Insurance Group has awarded a grant of £2,500, as part of their ‘Closer To You’ scheme, to VASL Young Carers, a charity nominated by Erskine Murray.

In January 2020, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group launched their ‘Closer to You’ scheme, offering insurance brokers in their Select programme the opportunity to nominate a charity to receive an Ecclesiastical grant of £2,500.

Erskine Murray nominated VASL Young Carers as their choice of recipient for the award. VASL is a Market Harborough-based charity, providing services and projects to improve the lives of people within the community, including family carers, young carers and older people who are lonely or isolated. VASL supports Young Carers through an established Activity Group, giving them a chance to meet new people, try new things and enjoy respite from their caring responsibilities.

Managing Director at Erskine Murray, Alan Wheeler, explains: “A Young Carer is a young person under the age of 18 who is helping to care for someone at home. This could be a parent, sibling, grandparent or other family member, who may have a long term illness, physical disability or other issue. Young Carers are hugely under-reported in the UK and many don’t realise they’re doing anything out of the ordinary. We felt Young Carers would be a worthy recipient of the award.”

On 15th April, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group informed Erskine Murray that their nomination had been successful and a grant of £2,500 had been paid to VASL Young Carers. A special certificate was issued, highlighting the donation. Phil Edwards at Ecclesiastical, said: “We are delighted to provide Erskine Murray with the opportunity to support a cause that is close to their heart. With charities struggling for funding, this is a great opportunity to share a positive story in these difficult and unpredictable times.”
