Salon Insurance

The hair and beauty industry is one which is always in high demand, with clients wanting to pamper themselves and enjoy a relaxing experience.

For the salon owner, it is important that insurable risks of running a successful salon are covered by the right insurance products, for peace of mind both for you and your customers. Erskine Murray are a leading independent insurance broker, working with a wide range of insurance partners to help you find the ideal insurance solutions to match your salon’s needs and requirements.

Insurance for Hair Salons

There are a range of insurance policies which are particularly suitable for those running a hair salon:

  • Public liability cover: important for most trades, this will provide cover for your legal liability for accidental injury or property damage claims made against you by customers, the public and other third parties.
  • Employers’ Liability cover: a legal requirement for most businesses, if you employ any staff (even part time or casual staff) you need to take out this policy. It covers any legal costs and compensation claims arising from staff who are injured or fall ill as a result of the work they do for you at your salon.

Other policies which may be useful for a hairdresser include buildings cover, equipment and tools cover and personal injury cover.

Beauty Salon Insurance

Much like a hairdressing salon, beauty salons have a unique set of risks which would be appropriate to insure against. With sharp objects and hazardous chemicals used routinely, accidents can happen! It is a good idea to discuss your specific needs with our team here at Erskine Murray, who can help you to put together the right combination of insurance products to cover all the risks involved in your day to day work.

Do I need insurance to open a salon?

As salons are typically a busy environment with plenty of hazardous materials used as part of treatments, it is possible for accidents to happen, as they can in most industries. Public liability insurance is recommended if you want to make sure you are protected. If you employ staff, by law you should have Employers’ Liability cover in place.

Will I be covered against theft from the salon?

There are policies which can cover theft. Business contents & stock insurance will cover theft of items such as hairdressing chairs, treatment tables and stock.

Can I be insured against lost income if I need to cease trading for events such as flood or fire?

Business interruption cover is a good way to protect income in the event that you cannot trade for an unforeseen reason such as fire or flood, subject to an insured event under the material damage section of your policy.
